What if you have already witnessed hypnosis?

When I was a little girl we played this game called "Light as a feather, stiff as a board" at slumber parties...

Slumber Party definition: A gathering of noisy, giggling, school-aged girls that usually involves talking about boys and ghosts. 

Here's how the game worked...

One girl would lie flat on her back (let's call her the "sleeper") while another girl sat near her head and rubbed her temples while telling a relaxing story.

Another girl sat near the sleeper's feet.

When the story-teller finished, she would say, "Light as a feather, stiff as a board!"

Then the girls on either end of the sleeper would pick her up by her head and feet to test if she truly was...

Light as a feather and stiff as a board. 

I was the nerdy girl across the room watching in abject horror.

I was sure that... when it worked (and sometimes it did)... the devil MUST have had something to do with it. 

It's funny because I look back now and realize that was straight hypnosis...

A fact that wouldn't have comforted me back then because I'd been taught that hypnosis was "of the devil".

There are so many places I could go next with this story but I think I'm going to leave it right here.

It's 7:00 pm on Christmas night as I write this and I've really been looking forward to chatting with you.
