Does it feel like your brain turns off when cravings hit?
Here's a fun way to easily let go of food cravings.
This cheat sheet is a little different.
I'm not going to tell you how it works. I'm going to SHOW you!
You're actually going to prove it to yourself right now.
Please play along with me for just a minute - even if you don't feel like it.
If you read first, then play along, you won't get the same "Wow!" factor.
Stand up. (Even if you're snuggled up in bed on Sunday morning. I promise you can get cozy again as soon as you're done.)
Make sure you can stretch your arms out in every direction.
Plant your feet on the floor shoulder-width apart.
Hold one arm straight out in front of you and point your finger straight ahead.
Now, keeping your arm in front of you, twist around and far as you can, and notice exactly where you're pointing.
Face the front again.
Ok, here comes the cool part.
Now, I want you to imagine twisting much farther.
What if you twisted so far you could point at an object 2 feet beyond last time?
What if you could rotate your body like the head of an owl and spin ALL the way around? (I know that's silly, and being silly makes you smarter.)
Close your eyes and imagine spinning really, really far.
Now, I want you to hold your arm straight out and point again. (Hopefully, you're still standing up.)
Now, twist around again and notice how much farther you're pointing!
Did you point farther?
HOW THIS CAN CHANGE YOUR LIFE
You just showed yourself how powerful your imagination is.
By imagining yourself twisting farther, you DID twist farther. (I've written "farther" so many times it doesn't seem like a real word anymore.)
Since you played along with that fun exercise, I wonder if you'll humor me by taking the next step. (It's just as fun.)
YOUR NEW 2 MINUTE MORNING ROUTINE
Do this for the next 7 days and notice how easy it is to make great food choices during the day.
- As soon as you wake up in the morning, stand up and twist - like you did just now.
- Face forward again. Close your eyes. Imagine the day ahead of you. The times you'll be around food. The times you may think about or crave food.
- Imagine yourself being successful. See yourself saying, "I can do this. It's easy to stay on track and eat healthily."
- Imagine yourself believing this is true and easily switching gears.
- Twist again as a way of sealing this in your memory so you remember to empower yourself during the day.
Why This Works so Well:
Our brains LOVE patterns.
You've been running a pattern that says. . .
"Think about food = reach for food."
The Twist Test is a pattern interrupt.
It's like interrupting someone in the middle of a sentence with a jolt. They forget what they were saying.
When you rehearse your actions in the morning, you program your brain to automatically interrupt the old craving pattern.
Your brain realizes, "Oh, that craving is just a pattern. I can let it go."
And it does.
