Now, without further ado. Here is this week's cheat sheet...

 

Do you struggle with a voice in your head saying "You need that brownie"?

This short cheat sheet delivers an easy neuroscience-based hack that lets you silence that voice.

What is Willpower?

Willpower is an argument in your head. 

You wake up in the morning and say, "I'm going to eat great today!" 

Then you get stuck in traffic on your way to work.

You feel stressed out by your to-do list.

You walk in the break room and there's a plate of brownies on the counter (insert your tempting food here).

Now the "eat great" part of you is having an argument with the brownie.

"I'll make you feel better!" the brownie says.

(Even though you know it's not REALLY true.)

Every time you let the brownie win, it strengthens your "give in" muscle.

You made a promise to yourself this morning and an inanimate object talked you out of it. 

I've been there.

I'm not saying this to make you feel bad and I'm not going to beat you over the head and say it's your fault. 

Instead, let's just fix it, ok?

 

SOLUTION

This neuroscience hack makes YOU the boss again.

I can lecture you and try to convince you to keep your promises to yourself...

OR

I can show you a playful subconscious hack that trains your brain to keep self-promises. 

 

My Word is Law!

This fun little exercise teaches your subconscious to recognize thoughts like, "I'm going to eat great today" as an absolute fact. 

You'll know that if you say it, it's true.

You'll start trusting yourself again. 

Don't be tricked by how simple this is. It works!

Step 1: Stand on one foot while you brush your teeth.

Step 2: As soon as you notice your foot going up, say to yourself, "MY WORD IS LAW!" (You might want to say it in your mind so toothpaste doesn't drip down your chin while you talk.)

You can even repeat it over and over while you brush. 

Then, next time a brownie tries to make you eat it, you'll remember saying, "I'm going to eat great today!" and you'll tell the brownie, "My word is law!"

Do this for 30 days and notice how easy it becomes to be the boss of your own life and stop letting an inanimate object (food) keep you from fitting in your favorite jeans. 

Get ready for willpower-free success!

 

How to remember:

Play this little game with me right now to ensure you'll remember this simple, life-changing hack. 

  1. Think about the next time you'll brush your teeth. Pretend you're there now. 

Look at your toothbrush, feel yourself standing in the bathroom. See the toothpaste squirting onto your toothbrush and let that be a cue to say, "Oh yeah! I'm gonna do this on one foot!"

  1. As you lift your foot say, "MY WORD IS LAW!" and just allow yourself to repeat that, like a chant in your mind, as you brush your teeth. 

THIS is self-hypnosis at it's finest. You are reprogramming yourself for success. 

Watch out brownies, here you come!

 

Tips for using My Word is Law to stay on track:

Think of a situation where you tend to struggle to eat healthy. 

Perhaps you're going to a wedding and wedding cake is your absolute favorite. 

Or maybe you usually struggle to stop eating the massive portion of food they serve at your favorite restaurant. 

  1. BEFORE you attend the event, make a CLEAR, REASONABLE decision about how you will behave around food. 

For example, you may choose to have one small piece of wedding cake and savor every bite then skip the other food. 

Or you may choose to ask for a carryout container at the start of your meal and immediately box half of the food up as soon as it arrives.

Imagine your decision is a promise to yourself and say, "My Word is Law." 

  1. When you are at the event and notice the food trying to boss you around, imagine standing up as your favorite superhero and shouting, "MY WORD IS LAW!" 

Really feel the sensation of shouting your truth and imagine the food backing down immediately. 

This will immediately stop the inner battle and allow you to enjoy the event without the battle of wills between you and food.
