How do you go from stressed out to peaceful?

By Lori Hammond

Coach and Professional Hypnotist. Giving you simple tools to stop overwhelm and harness joyful forward momentum.

Oh my goodness, I have been sitting in front of my laptop for over an hour!

I write a few sentences...

...then erase them.

I'm telling myself a story that I don't feel inspired.

I want my cheat sheets to convey love and hope and give simple tools that let you get where you want to be.

Even if that's as simple as going from stressed out to peaceful while you read this email.

After an hour of sitting on my couch with my laptop, I just got up and made myself a cup of coffee and now I'm sitting at the bar in my kitchen.

Now my fingers feel like they're typing on their own!

Just getting up and moving your body can give your brain the kick-start it needs to generate new ideas. (That tip is a freebie.😄)

Today's cheat sheet is going to be extra simple.

Because complexity is the enemy of completion. (That's my new mantra.)

If I could give you a way to go from stressed to peaceful in 5 seconds, would you be interested?

I learned this trick from neuroscientist, Dr. Andrew Huberman.

The Physiological Sigh

This kind of sigh is our body's natural way of offloading stress chemicals in the body and releasing peace chemicals.

You're already good at it. You've probably just never used it on purpose before.

It happens when you do a deep, sharp double inhale, followed by a long sigh.

When a person cries really hard for a long time, they'll often experience a physiological sigh as they start to calm down.

When you experience something yourself you're 70% more likely to remember to use it when you need it. So try this now.

  1. Notice how stressed out you feel on a scale of 1-10. If you're not stressed right now, you can stress yourself out by thinking about that thing that's been bothering you. Then notice the intensity from 1-10.

  1. Take a physiological sigh with a loooong, slow exhale.

  1. Relax your shoulders.

  1. Repeat 1 or 2 times if it feels good to do so.

  1. Notice how that feeling of stress has shifted on a scale of 1-10.

That's pretty awesome, isn't it?

Yes, it really can be this easy.

I'd love to hear how well this worked for you!

Have an amazing day, my friend.

Love,

Lori
