What if persistence is the key ?

You might not need this email today. You might be cruising along doing just great and you’d rather I didn’t interrupt.
Or this might be just the right day for you to dust yourself off and hop back on the wagon.
Sometimes, when you have <ahem> not been paying enough attention to your goals (it’s okay!), a fresh perspective is all you need.
Don’t beat yourself up for yesterday.
Don't psyche yourself up for some big overhaul tomorrow.
Just keep moving forward.
Sometimes I get frustrated with myself because I haven't arrived. I wake up in the morning and think,
"Ugh! Did I fall short of my goal AGAIN yesterday? When am I going to figure this out?"
Then I remember one of my favorite quotes. This quote is about not being good at meditating because your thoughts wander too much. I think it can be applied to any area of life where we keep falling short of our objective.
"We are accustomed to believing that what counts is attaining our goals.
Surely the saint who succeeds in attaining everlasting enlightenment is the pinnacle of perfection?
Perhaps not.
Perhaps the knucklehead who falls from grace then picks himself up and clambers toward it again...
Only to fall back into the pit and repeat the process...
IS doing something important.
The act of PERSISTENCE may be more essential than the permanent attainment of bliss.
The true hero may be she who PERSISTS...
not she who wins.
So FAIL HAPPILY.
FAIL an infinite number of times.
Falling from ecstasy isn't the problem.
It's part of the process.
Elevate your state back to bliss.

Even if you only succeed in maintaining it for a second.
You’re training your brain and body to experience Serenity...
To reorient back to peace when disturbed.
The practice of deliberately switching back to Bliss may be more important than attaining Bliss itself." - Dawson Church "Bliss Brain"
The more I contemplate this quote the more I wonder, "What if struggle is really just a reminder to come back to bliss?"
I shared this quote during the group training I did last Sunday. We were talking about weight management and the frustration of "falling off the wagon".
But what if falling off the wagon is really just a reminder to be present and be kind to ourselves as we climb right back on...
...over and over and over again?
Will you do me a favor?
Will you think about some goal you've been trying to accomplish and haven't succeeded in yet? (Emphasis on the word YET.)
Then will you ask yourself the following question and let yourself daydream the answer?
"A year from now, when I have accomplished this goal and struggle is a thing of the past, what will life be like?"
Let yourself dream big. This is just happening in your imagination and there are no limits. When you've daydreamed for a few minutes, imagine that the ‘you’ who has accomplished this goal could give you a word of advice or comfort or perspective.
What would he or she tell you?
Write that answer down and keep it by your bedside...or tucked in your sock drawer.
Bonus points for really taking 5 minutes to do this and not just reading about it.
It might just change your life.
Thank you, from the bottom of my heart, for taking the time to read this cheat sheet.
Have an amazing week!
Love,
Lori
