What if you could conquer willpower?

I think you're really going to love this week's cheat sheet.

As you know, I'm anti-willpower.

That's because science has shown that trying to use willpower, motivation, or accountability to change behavior never works in the long run.

It’s like trying to stop the rain by putting out a bucket. You may successfully change the habit but only because it stopped raining.

Willpower and motivation are only useful for one-off tasks like filing your tax return or cleaning out the garage.

Using willpower is treating the SIDE-EFFECT of the problem instead of the problem itself.

So what IS the solution?

I'm glad you asked!

IMAGINATION is the antidote to willpower.

Your unconscious mind speaks the language of imagination.

The fact that you haven't been able to solve your problem through conscious effort proves it's an unconscious problem.

If you could do an enjoyable writing exercise that would obliterate your need to use willpower, would you be interested?

You can use this exercise to change any habitual behavior. Email me if you're not sure how to apply this to your situation.

Here's your imagination writing assignment. If you decide not to do it now, I highly recommend scheduling when you'll do it right now.

It's not real until you schedule it.

Write yourself a letter:

This isn't any ordinary letter.

I want you to fast forward 20 years and write this letter as 2040 you.

It's ok if that seems far-fetched because as you just start writing,  ideas and words will start to flow.

Ideas you didn't even realize were tucked inside that magnificent unconscious of yours.

Bonus points for writing by hand because you're better able to access your unconscious resources that way.

Here are the guidelines:

  1. Imagine it's June 14, 2040. You are in excellent health, happy, vibrant, and grateful.

  1. You're writing to thank 20 years ago you for making the change you've been wanting to make (for example: losing weight, drinking less, worrying less, etc).

  1. Acknowledge that it was hard and it was worth it.

  1. Talk about all the ways your life is better now because you made this decision.

Really let yourself get imaginative and playful. The more you write, the more ideas will come to you.

Sign and date the letter June 14, 2040.

Then close your eyes, hold your hands to your heart and say, "Thank you"

I believe writing is one of the most powerful forms of self-hypnosis in the world so expect amazing things to happen.

I'm cheering for you!

Love,

Lori

P.S. I have a surprise for you! I had the privilege of interviewing Freddy Jacquin for my "Slay the Impostor Monster" podcast. He talked about his own Impostor Monster and gave a behind-the-scenes sneak peak of his recording studio that will abolish any reasons you've had for not moving forward with your dream.

I think you'll love this one!
