4 steps to experience Instant Bliss

I put my grandbaby, Zelda, in her little carrier that lets me snuggle her without making my arms turn into Jello.

Then I sang her to sleep.

It's one of the most peace-inducing experiences to have a baby sleep against you.

A few minutes later, I found myself stressing out about something on my to-do list.

I could feel myself getting more and more tense and uptight.

Then I heard Zelda breathing.

I felt her sweaty head against my chest.

Her body snuggled peacefully against me.

And I realized, "I'm doing it again! I'm missing this moment."

I raised 3 daughters and missed so stinking much of it because I was always thinking about what was next.

Planning for the next stage instead of savoring this one.

The moment I found out this baby was on the way, I was determined to be present with her.

So, as soon as I realized what I was doing I looked out at her bedroom where we were standing and simply noticed the things I could see…

The amazing macramé her mom made...

The sloth in the crib (which she doesn't sleep in 😂)

The book on the shelf.

I noticed the things I could hear...

Her peaceful breathing...

Her mom running the sewing machine in the other room...

The traffic outside...

I noticed how it FELT to be in this moment.

I closed my eyes and memorized the way she felt against me...

The way the floor supported the weight of my body...

It brought me back to right now.

There is such peace and bliss in this present moment.

You can experience it right now.

Look out and notice 3 things you see, hear, and feel.

This works because it's impossible to think 2 things at the same time.

If you're immersed in right now and narrating your present moment experience...

"I am here. And it is good."

It's impossible to simultaneously stress yourself out by thinking scary "What if" thoughts.

I wish I could say that my moment of presence flipped the switch and I felt peaceful for the rest of the day.

The truth is that I caught myself stressing out...

Over and over and over.

I've learned that, rather than beat myself up when I notice a slip, I can just come back to presence by noticing what I see, hear, and feel.

How you can use 3X3 to experience instant bliss anytime (even when life is stressful)

Step 1: Notice 3 things you can SEE in the space around you.

Simply name each object in your mind.

Step 2: Notice 3 things you can hear in this moment.

Name the sound you hear in your mind. You might be surprised to notice sounds you weren't aware of a moment ago.

Step 3: Notice 3 things you feel.

Example: Notice the way it feels to have the weight of your body supported by the surface beneath you. Notice a couple spots where your clothing is touching your skin. Notice the feeling of your tongue inside your mouth and allow your jaw to relax and your teeth to separate.

Step 4: Say to yourself, "I am here. All is well."

Notice how your body responds to your positive self-talk.

That's all there is to it!

Will you try it right now and tell me what you notice about THIS present moment?

Love,

Lori
